A note from Jim Saxe announcing the end of
the El Cerrito Square and Contra Dance series

As some of you may already have heard, I'm retiring from programming the BACDS El Cerrito Sunday Square and Contra Dance Series, and the series is shortly to be discontinued. For those who'd like to enjoy the last chances to attend, here are the particulars of the remaining regularly scheduled dances:

Sunday, November 23, 7-10 PM
Open band led by Vista Social Club (Bobbi & Roland Nikles,
Adam Cavan, Lisa Croen, and Daren Santos),
with Jim Saxe calling

Sunday, December 14, 7-10 PM
Lynn Ackerson calls to the music of
the KJammers (Kathrine Gardner,
Mark Kartman, and Dan Kluger)

The location is the El Cerrito Veterans' Hall, 6401 Stockton Ave., in the second block east of San Pablo Avenue. See http://www.fussell.org/bacds/ecdance.htm for directions and a map.

We're also anticipating a one-time reunion and 13th anniversary event in February of 2004. Stay tuned for details.

Please note that this message concerns only the Sunday  El Cerrito dance series at the Veterans' Hall. The second Friday contra dances, which recently moved from Finn Hall in Berkeley to a different El Cerrito location, the air-conditioned hall at Prospect Sierra School, will be continuing on their usual schedule.

And now a word of thanks. Its been my great pleasure to collaborate with many people over nearly thirteen years of organizing the Sunday Square & Contra series. These include various co-programmers (Maxine Gerber, Brendan Doyle, Ray Bierl, and Kathrine Gardner), dance managers (Allison Delugach, Lydee Scudder, Robin Cohen, and Laura Rice-Hall), a succession of BACDS Boards, musicians and callers too numerous to mention (as I'd surely leave some out), and of course all you dancers who've slapped the floorboards and shaken the rafters at St. Clement's Church, St. Joseph's School, the Diamond Rec Center, the El Cerrito Vets' Hall, and occasional other venues. I thank you all and hope to see many of you again at our final dances.

Happy dancing,
--Jim
